Create a website on your domain

Summary

To create a website on your domain example.com (fill in yours):

  • Buy a domain of your choice from a domain provider, here we use example.com,

  • Point your domain to the Boomla infrastructure,

  • Create a website on Boomla, choose the domain example.com.

Point your domain to the Boomla infrastructure

Log in to your domain provider and configure the following DNS records:

  • example.com shall point to IP 87.229.103.124
    • record type A
    • host @
    • value 87.229.103.124
    • TTL smallest (eg. 1 hour)
  • *.example.com shall point to IP 87.229.103.124
    • record type A
    • host *
    • value 87.229.103.124
    • TTL smallest (eg. 1 hour)

The second entry, *.example.com will ensure that Boomla can redirect visitors from www.example.com to your root domain. (It just happens that lots of visitors assume that they have to type www in front of domain names.)

Also, as you create multiple versions of your website, those will be created on subdomains like new-design.example.com. By directing all subdomains of your website to the Boomla infrastructure via the * selector, you ensure that any version of your website will work immediately, without further configuration.

Boomla on a subdomain of yours

If you want to host a website on a subdomain of yours, say john.example.com, you will have to do the same thing, configure the following A records:

  • john.example.com shall point to IP 87.229.103.124
    • record type A
    • host john
    • value 87.229.103.124
    • TTL smallest (eg. 1 hour)
  • *.john.example.com shall point to IP 87.229.103.124
    • record type A
    • host *.john
    • value 87.229.103.124
    • TTL smallest (eg. 1 hour)
